UNDER WATER. HERITAGE IN THE NORTH SEA | UP TO AND INCLUDING 14 MAY | PARK OF PROVINCIAL DOMAIN ATLANTIKWALL RAVERSYDE | FREE ADMISSION

The bed of the North Sea is littered with heritage. Shipwrecks, submarines and aircraft, and sometimes even traces of habitation. Occasionally, something is found on the beach as well. This photo exhibition shines a light on what can be found in the Channel and the North Sea, between Wissant (France) and the Wadden Islands (the Netherlands). With special attention to the Belgian waters.

Many of those wrecks are now artificial reefs with valuable nature. Some of them are seamen’s graves. Wrecks from both world wars sometimes contain ammunition that may still leak. Others are a hindrance to shipping. This exhibition shines a light on the different aspects of this underwater heritage.

With photographs by Dieter Decroos, Mathieu de Meyer, Cor Kuyvenhoven, Nicolas Mouchart, Bruno Pruvost, Tomas Termote, Sven Van Haelst (VLIZ) & Vic Verlinden.
