Restoration of the collection

To provide an accurate image, numerous objects are on display in the open air on the Atlantikwall. A large part of the collection consists of metal objects; combined with the extreme maritime climate, a sound conservation and restoration policy is very important. This is why Atlantikwall Raversyde schedules a number of ‘large’ objects for restoration every year.

The Würzburg Riese Radar, the small searchlight and the rangefinder were thoroughly restored by specialists in a historically accurate manner. Each object is given a customised treatment with the utmost respect for the original. This treatment is preceded by an investigation into the history of successive layers of colour.
